About Us

Stand for Marriage Maine is a broad-based coalition of Mainers who support the traditional definition of marriage – between a man and a woman. When the Legislature passed LD 1020 to legalize homosexual marriage, more than 100,000 Mainers responded by qualifying the People’s Veto for the November ballot to give voters the final say on marriage. By passing Question 1, we will preserve the definition of marriage in Maine as what it should be – the union of a man and a woman. Please join us by voting YES on Question 1!

Who We Are
Question 1 is supported by a broad range of organizations and individuals, including faith leaders from virtually every denomination in Maine – and those who subscribe to no faith at all but understand the importance of marriage in our society. People from every walk of life believe that marriage is between a man and a woman and have organized to ensure that definition is protected and upheld.

Voting YES on Question 1 does 3 simple things:

01) Preserves the definition of marriage as what Maine law has always been and what human history has always understood marriage to be – the union of a man and a woman.

02) Maintains all the rights of same-sex couples who are covered under Maine’s domestic partnership laws.

03) Protects our children from experiencing the consequences of homosexual marriage that have been realized in other states, such as being taught in public schools that “same-sex marriage” is the same as traditional marriage.
